ENCAUSTIC

I love encaustic. 'Encaustic' can be defined as hot wax painting and is a form of painting that involves adding a heated wax medium to colored pigments and applying on a substrate with a paintbrush. I had the opportunity to work with encaustic with instructor Addison Graham in Introduction to Painting, Spring 2025. If there are any moments when I remember growing as an artist, this would be one. To keep it simple, we used melted crayons to color and paint. The opportunity to paint with wax was something that I would never like to expire. After doing the work in class, I purchased an old skillet at Goodwill, a few boxes of radically colored crayons, some disposable brushes and went to town in the Art Barn. I have had so much fun working with encaustic both in and out of school. Thank you Addison!
